ABOUT

Celebrating 45 Years of Care!

For more than four decades, AlphaCare has grown from a church-led hotline into a trusted medical ministry serving women and families across Philadelphia.

In 1980, burdened by the reality that thousands of pregnant women in Philadelphia were facing unexpected pregnancies alone, Frank H. King, Jr., MD, along with members of Tenth Presbyterian Church, took action. Their shared conviction was clear: women deserved compassionate, life-affirming alternatives to abortion, delivered with dignity, truth, and love.

That same year, their vision began to take shape as volunteers from local churches launched a pregnancy support hotline, offering hope and information to women in crisis. Just a year later, the organization formally incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

A Brief History

Since those early days, AlphaCare has continued to grow in impact and reach:

  • 2000, Alpha received licensure from the Commonwealth as a Level I Clinical Laboratory, allowing us to expand our on-site medical services.
  • 2004, Alpha purchased and upgraded the building at 1601 Lombard Street, a milestone made possible by the generous gifts of God’s people who believed in the mission and vision of the ministry.
  • 2015, AlphaCare acquired the properties of 3807 and 3809 Lancaster Avenue and fully renovated the two rowhomes into one functional office and medical space.
  • 2016, AlphaCare fundraised and obtaned the Mobile Medical Clinic, named “Rhonda”.
  • 2017, AlphaCare began services in Lancaster Avenue and started conducting ultrasounds.
  • 2025, AlphaCare fundraised for thier 2nd Mobile Medical Clinic named “Haven” and obtained it in 2026.
  • 2026, AlphaCare received their medical accreditation from the Accredittion Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and opened thier client boutique, Kim’s Corner, providing clinets with a cost-free shopping experience.

From a single hotline to a full-service pregnancy medical center and mobile medical clinic, offering a multitude of services, AlphaCare has been faithfully serving the women of Philadelphia for over 40 years, offering help, hope, and healing in the name of Jesus Christ.

"Depsite all the things that plague the city... there's something beautiful about seeing God at work on a daily basis." Brooke Nearman, Executive Director, AlphaCare
