Getting to Know AlphaCare

What is AlphaCare, and whom does it serve?

AlphaCare is a Christian ministry providing free medical and social services to pregnant women and families in Philadelphia. We offer pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, education, practical support, and connections to community resources, helping women understand their pregnancies and find support for what comes next.

Why is AlphaCare’s work needed in Philadelphia?

Pregnancy can become especially difficult when a woman is also facing financial strain, unstable housing, limited support, or difficulty accessing care. AlphaCare brings medical services, practical resources, and trusted relationships together so women do not have to navigate those challenges alone.

How is AlphaCare different from an OB-GYN practice or a general social service organization?

AlphaCare combines early pregnancy medical services with social services, education, and practical support. We do not replace an OB-GYN or provide ongoing prenatal medical care. Instead, we help women understand their pregnancies, connect with appropriate healthcare providers, and address concerns that extend beyond a medical appointment.

How did AlphaCare begin?

AlphaCare began as a pregnancy support hotline organized by local church volunteers. Over time, that work grew into a medical ministry offering pregnancy services, social services, mobile care, and practical help. The commitment behind that growth remains the same: caring for women and families in the name of Christ.

Where does AlphaCare serve, and what does the Mobile Medical Clinic do?

Our primary clinic is at 3807 Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia. Our Mobile Medical Clinic is designed to bring pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, and compassionate support closer to women in other Philadelphia neighborhoods. Please contact our team for current mobile appointment availability and locations.

What are AlphaCare’s priorities for the years ahead?

We want to strengthen the care already available and reach more women and families throughout Philadelphia. That includes developing staff and volunteer capacity, building community partnerships, and expanding access to services as God provides the people, resources, and opportunities to do so responsibly.

Our Services & Clients

How do women find AlphaCare?

Women find AlphaCare through online searches for pregnancy services, prenatal resources, or information about abortion. Churches and community connections also help women learn about our services. Our client website provides information about the care available and a way to request an appointment.

Do clients pay for services or need health insurance?

No. All of AlphaCare’s services are provided at no cost to clients. Health insurance is not required to receive care at AlphaCare.

Does AlphaCare perform or refer for abortions?

No. AlphaCare does not perform abortions or refer clients for abortions. We provide pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, medical information, and practical support. Our team listens, answers questions, and helps women understand their pregnancies and available resources as they consider their next steps.

What happens during a woman’s first appointment?

For an initial medical appointment, a woman is welcomed by our staff and completes basic paperwork before meeting with a nurse for pregnancy testing and a conversation about her questions and concerns. An ultrasound may also be offered when appropriate. We make time for her to understand the information she receives.

How does AlphaCare support women after their babies are born?

Support can include breastfeeding and infant-care guidance, social services, a mothers’ group, and baby essentials. As women transition out of ongoing social services, The Sisterhood program offers an additional opportunity for friendship, mentoring, and connection with a supportive church community.

Who provides AlphaCare’s medical care, and what oversight is in place?

Qualified medical professionals provide our pregnancy services, and ultrasound scans receive physician review. Our Lancaster Avenue clinic is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, or AAAHC. Medical oversight, clinical standards, and confidentiality are important parts of the care we provide.

Can a woman come to AlphaCare while she is still deciding what to do about her pregnancy?

Yes. Women considering their pregnancy decisions are welcome. Our team provides a place to ask questions, receive medical information, discuss personal concerns, and learn about available support without being rushed or judged.

Does AlphaCare provide housing and other assistance directly?

For needs such as housing, education, employment, and legal assistance, our team helps women connect with appropriate organizations and resources. We also provide practical support directly, including maternity and baby essentials. The help available depends on the need and the services offered by AlphaCare and its community partners.

Does AlphaCare offer support after miscarriage or abortion?

Yes. AlphaCare offers grief support following miscarriage and emotional support for women who seek help after an abortion. Each woman’s experience is different. Our staff listens with respect for her circumstances and beliefs and helps her explore appropriate support, including trauma-healing opportunities.

How can I connect someone I know with AlphaCare?

Encourage her to visit our client website and select Request an Appointment, or call or text 215-546-8686. She can contact AlphaCare directly to ask questions and learn about available care. An online request is followed by staff contact to arrange an appointment.

Mobile Medical Clinic

What is AlphaCare’s Mobile Medical Clinic?

The Mobile Medical Clinic is a medical office on wheels, currently a Mercedes Sprinter van, equipped to provide free pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, and medically accurate information in a private, welcoming setting. Its purpose is to bring professional pregnancy care closer to women who may have difficulty reaching our West Philadelphia office.

Why is mobile care important in Philadelphia?

For some women, getting to an appointment means multiple bus transfers, time away from work, or finding someone to care for their children. Mobile care helps reduce these barriers by bringing services closer to home, giving women an opportunity to receive care and ask important questions early in pregnancy.

What can a woman expect during a mobile appointment?

A woman meets with a qualified medical professional for pregnancy testing, an ultrasound when appropriate, and a conversation about her questions and concerns. Our team takes time to listen and explain the information she receives. Care is free and confidential, and health insurance is not required. Personal prayer is offered only with her permission.

How do churches and community organizations help make mobile care possible?

Local partners help AlphaCare understand neighborhood needs, build trust, and explore opportunities to bring the clinic into their communities. Their involvement is about more than a place to park. Churches and organizations can introduce women to AlphaCare and help connect professional medical care with relationships and support already present in the neighborhood.

How can I support the Mobile Medical Clinic?

Regular financial support helps sustain the people and resources mobile care requires, including medical staff, equipment, supplies, fuel, insurance, and vehicle maintenance. Qualified medical professionals, drivers, and volunteers also have important roles in this work.

Please pray for the women we hope to reach, for wisdom and strength for our team, and for the provision needed to serve more neighborhoods. Churches can help by making AlphaCare a regular missions partner and introducing others to the ministry.

Our Faith & Approach to Care

How does AlphaCare’s Christian faith shape its care?

We believe every person is made in the image of God and already possesses dignity and worth. Our faith calls us to recognize that dignity through providing excellent medical services, honest communication, compassionate relationships, practical help, and care that reflects the love of Christ.

Do women have to be Christian to receive services?

No. AlphaCare welcomes women of all backgrounds and beliefs. A woman does not need to share our Christian faith to be treated with respect and compassion.

Are clients expected to participate in prayer or religious activities to receive help?

Spiritual support is offered when welcomed, and personal prayer is offered with a woman’s permission. Our desire is to reflect Christ’s love through the care we provide while respecting each woman’s background, beliefs, and willingness to engage in spiritual conversation.

What does “life-affirming care” mean at AlphaCare?

We recognize the value of both a woman and her unborn child. Life-affirming care means offering truthful medical information, compassionate support, and practical help that addresses the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy, with genuine concern for both mother and child.

How does AlphaCare respect women whose beliefs or decisions differ from its own?

We listen carefully, communicate honestly, and treat each woman with dignity. Our commitment is to provide accurate information and compassionate care without pressure or judgment, recognizing that every woman brings her own experiences, concerns, and circumstances to the conversation.

Is AlphaCare affiliated with a particular church or denomination?

AlphaCare is a Christian ministry with roots in local church service and partnerships with churches across the region. Our Statement of Faith describes the Christian beliefs that guide our mission.

Where can I read AlphaCare’s Statement of Faith?

Visit our Statement of Faith page to read the Apostles’ Creed and learn how these beliefs shape our commitment to truth, grace, and the God-given dignity of every person.

What is AlphaCare’s approach to public advocacy and political involvement?

AlphaCare’s focus is providing medical care, practical support, and trusted relationships for women and families. Our Christian convictions guide that work, and our approach to client care is grounded in compassion, truth, and respect, without a political agenda.

Giving & Stewardship

How is AlphaCare funded, and what does my gift support?

Financial gifts, church partnerships, and sponsorships help sustain AlphaCare’s work. Your support helps provide medical services, social services, outreach, staffing, and the everyday resources needed to keep care available at no cost to clients.

How does AlphaCare measure and report its impact?

Our Our Impact page reports information such as clients served, medical and social service appointments, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and the investment required to provide care. It also shares reported pregnancy intentions and information about ongoing client relationships. These measures help describe the reach of our work.

How can I start, change, or stop a recurring gift?

Start a monthly gift through our Give page. Existing recurring donors can use Donor Update to change credit card information. For changes to your gift amount, schedule, or cancellation, please contact development@alphacarephilly.org.

Are donations tax-deductible, and how do I obtain a receipt or giving statement?

AlphaCare is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Charitable gifts are tax-deductible as permitted by law. Receipts are mailed or emailed upon completion of your donation. For more receipt or giving-statement questions, contact development@alphacarephilly.org.

What difference does a monthly gift make?

Monthly gifts provide steady, dependable support that ensures AlphaCare will be ready when a woman reaches out. Your ongoing generosity helps sustain medical care, practical help, and trusted relationships through pregnancy and early motherhood, allowing us to walk alongside women beyond a single appointment.

Can I designate a gift for a particular program or need?

Please contact our development team at development@alphacarephilly.org before making a gift for a specific purpose so we can discuss the need and clarify how your gift would be used.

What giving options are available beyond an online donation?

Options include donor-advised funds, stock and securities, eligible IRA charitable distributions, planned gifts, and employer matching gifts. Visit Give or contact our development team to discuss the information needed for your gift.

Who should I contact about a gift, payment problem, or contact-information change?

Contact development@alphacarephilly.org. For difficulty processing a donation, call 215-735-6028. Please use the secure Donor Update link for credit card changes.

Where can I find the sources for statistics on this website?

Our Sources & Statistics page brings together the reports behind the Philadelphia, abortion, and community-health statistics shared on this site. Our Our Impact page also provides information about AlphaCare’s own services and program activity.

Beyond appointment totals, how can I understand the difference AlphaCare makes?

Our Client Stories page offers a closer look at what care means in individual lives. These accounts help show the relationships, practical assistance, encouragement, and faith behind the statistics, while recognizing that each woman’s circumstances and experience are her own.

Events & Sponsorships

What events does AlphaCare host?

Our main fundraising gatherings include the Annual Fundraising Banquet and the AlphaCare Open, our charitable golf outing. These events bring supporters together to enjoy time with one another, learn about the ministry, and help sustain care for women and families.

We also organize Hope Delivered, a seasonal campaign that brings practical essentials and Christmas gifts to AlphaCare families through donations and volunteer deliveries.

Do I need to be an existing donor to attend an event?

No. Whether you have supported AlphaCare for years or are just getting to know us, we would be glad to welcome you. Our events offer an opportunity to learn about the work, meet others who care about women and families, and consider how you might become involved.

Where can I find event details and register?

Visit News & Events and follow the link to the event that interests you. Individual event pages provide details about the location, schedule, registration, and sponsorship opportunities. Please review the information for that event, since registration options and costs differ.

How can I or my organization sponsor an AlphaCare event?

We welcome sponsorships from individuals, family trusts, businesses, and churches. Explore opportunities on our event pages or our Annual Sponsorship page, then contact development@alphacarephilly.org to discuss your interest. We would be grateful to help you find a meaningful way to support our events and the care they make possible.

What is the difference between an event sponsor and an Annual Sponsor?

An event sponsor supports a particular gathering, such as the banquet or AlphaCare Open, with recognition and participation opportunities associated with that event.

An Annual Sponsor makes a broader commitment that includes recognition across multiple AlphaCare events throughout the year. Annual sponsorship offers bundled benefits compared with sponsoring events individually. Visit Annual Sponsorship to review the current options.

How does sponsorship benefit AlphaCare?

Sponsorship helps cover the costs of hosting our events. Our goal is to fully fund those expenses through sponsorships so that every gift made by event guests can go toward AlphaCare’s mission: providing free medical care, practical help, and compassionate support to women and families in Philadelphia.

How are sponsors recognized?

Recognition depends on the event and sponsorship level. Opportunities may include a business or organization’s name or logo on event materials, websites, emails, programs, and signage. Some packages also include event participation or recognition tied to a particular part of the event.

Please review the current sponsorship details to see exactly what is included.

Can I support an event even if I cannot attend?

Yes. A financial gift or sponsorship allows you to support an AlphaCare event even when you cannot join us in person. Our guests also love learning about like-minded businesses and organizations they can support. Sponsorship offers an opportunity to introduce your organization to the AlphaCare community while helping make compassionate care available to women and families in Philadelphia.

Can I attend the AlphaCare Open without golfing?

Yes. The AlphaCare Open offers a cocktail reception and dinner registration for guests who are not golfing. It is a way to enjoy the evening, connect with other supporters, and learn about AlphaCare’s ministry. Visit the event page for current registration details.

Can I volunteer at an AlphaCare event?

Yes. Events create opportunities to help with preparation, setup, welcoming guests, and cleanup. The specific needs vary by event. Complete the Volunteer Skills & Interest Form and let us know you are interested in event support so we can consider your availability as opportunities arise.

Can our church, business, or group organize a fundraiser for AlphaCare?

Yes. A Baby Bottle Campaign, sponsored run or walk, birthday fundraiser, or community gathering can become a way to support AlphaCare and introduce others to the ministry. Groups can also host a baby shower or donation drive to collect needed items for families.

Please contact us before beginning so we can discuss your plans and the needs you hope to support.

Who should I contact about events or sponsorships?

Email development@alphacarephilly.org or call 215-546-8686. Whether you are considering a sponsorship, planning to attend, or helping your church or business become involved, we would be glad to hear from you.

Church Partnerships

What does it mean for a church to partner with AlphaCare?

Partnership can include prayer, financial support, volunteering, sharing AlphaCare’s work, or organizing a focused campaign. We want to find meaningful ways for your congregation to participate.

How can AlphaCare be a resource for our congregation?

Pastors and ministry leaders can connect women and families with AlphaCare for pregnancy-related medical services, practical assistance, and support. We also offer opportunities for church members to learn and serve.

Can our church participate with a small budget or limited volunteer availability?

Yes. Churches of different sizes and capacities can participate through prayer, introductions, collections, or service. Partnership should fit your congregation’s gifts and availability.

How can our church refer a woman or family for care?

Share AlphaCare’s client website or encourage her to call or text 215-546-8686. She can ask questions and request an appointment directly with our team.

Can someone from AlphaCare speak at our church, or can we share the documentary?

Yes. Contact us about a church service, missions gathering, small group, or other event. We can also discuss sharing our documentary. Because it includes sensitive personal stories, please coordinate its use with AlphaCare rather than posting it publicly.

How can churches become involved in The Sisterhood Program?

The Sisterhood Program connects women transitioning out of AlphaCare’s ongoing social services with trained volunteer mentors and supportive churches. Churches can help identify and support mentors, welcome mothers and their families, pray, and provide opportunities for relationships and community to grow.

Our church already supports AlphaCare. How can we stay involved?

Thank you for making AlphaCare part of your church’s ministry. We are deeply grateful for your generosity, prayers, and commitment to caring for women and families in Philadelphia.

Please keep praying, especially for our staff. Walking alongside women through uncertainty, grief, and difficult circumstances can be emotionally taxing. Pray that the Lord will give our team wisdom, strength, rest, and encouragement as they care for each woman. Please also remember our clients, volunteers, and ministry needs, and encourage your congregation to stay connected through our prayer updates.

Your church can deepen its involvement by inviting an AlphaCare speaker, sharing our documentary, organizing a Baby Bottle Campaign or donation drive, or volunteering together. Visiting AlphaCare can help members understand the work firsthand. Churches can also sponsor a week or month of services and connect women in their own congregations and communities with our care.

Committed, regular giving is essential to reaching more women throughout the city. We are praying and planning to expand access to care in underserved neighborhoods, working alongside churches already serving those communities. AlphaCare cannot sustain and expand this work without dependable church partners. Including AlphaCare in your annual missions budget, continuing your regular giving, or prayerfully considering increased support helps sustain today’s care and prepare for the needs ahead.

We would love to hear how your church hopes to be involved in the year ahead and explore meaningful ways to serve together.

How does AlphaCare work alongside churches already serving Philadelphia neighborhoods?

Churches in Philadelphia are already caring for their neighbors. AlphaCare supports that work by giving pastors and ministry leaders a trusted place to refer women for free pregnancy-related medical care, social services, and practical help. A church can continue walking alongside a woman and her family while our team provides additional care and resources.

Churches in Philadelphia and throughout the region can share in this work through prayer, regular financial support, volunteering, and donations of needed items. Each congregation brings different gifts, resources, and relationships to a shared commitment to care.

As we plan to reach more neighborhoods, our goal is to work with the churches already serving there. We want to strengthen their ministry and help make professional care more accessible, not replace the trusted relationships they have built within their communities.

Can our church partner with AlphaCare from outside the tri-state area?

Absolutely. Your church does not need to be nearby to share in this work. Just as churches support missionaries beyond their own communities, your congregation can help bring the love of Christ to women and families in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is a mission field with significant needs. Despite the city’s major healthcare institutions, many women face barriers to timely care while also navigating poverty, unstable housing, transportation difficulties, and limited support. An unexpected pregnancy can bring these challenges together at once, making accessible medical care and trusted relationships especially important.

Faithful churches are already serving their Philadelphia neighbors, and AlphaCare works alongside them. Churches outside our area can help sustain and expand this work through committed, regular support. Including AlphaCare in your missions budget helps keep medical care and practical resources available today while preparing to reach more women in underserved neighborhoods.

Your congregation can also pray regularly for our clients and staff, share our ministry updates and documentary, or organize a Baby Bottle Campaign. These are meaningful ways to participate from a distance and help your members become personally connected to the work.

We would be grateful to learn about your church and explore how we can serve together, wherever you call home.

Volunteering & Practical Help

How do I begin volunteering with AlphaCare?

Visit our Volunteer page and complete the Volunteer Skills & Interest Form. Tell us about your experience, interests, and availability so we can learn where your gifts may fit the ministry’s needs.

What happens after I complete the Volunteer Skills & Interest Form?

We keep your information in our volunteer pool and reach out as needs arise that may match your interests and availability. Completing the form does not commit you to a particular role or guarantee an immediate placement. It gives us a starting point for connecting you with opportunities.

What baby and maternity items are most helpful, and where can I find donation guidelines?

Visit Donate Material Items for our current needs and donation guidelines. Needed items may include diapers, clothing, and baby essentials for Kim’s Corner. Please check the guidelines before shopping or collecting donations, since acceptance requirements differ for clothing, hygiene products, car seats, and other items.

Can I volunteer occasionally, or do I need an ongoing commitment?

Both occasional and ongoing opportunities are part of AlphaCare’s volunteer program. Some needs involve a single project or event, while other roles depend on regular availability. Share what you can realistically offer so we can consider a suitable fit.

Do I need medical training or professional experience to volunteer?

Not for every opportunity. Volunteers help with practical projects, office tasks, events, donations, and many other needs. Medical and specialized roles require appropriate qualifications, but there are also ways to serve through organization, hospitality, reliability, and a willingness to help.

What screening, references, or training may be required?

Requirements depend on the role and its responsibilities. Some opportunities involve an application, interview, references, background clearances, confidentiality agreement, or training. More involved ministry roles may also require a statement of faith and pastoral reference. Our team explains the steps relevant to each opportunity.

Can our church, small group, workplace, or family serve together?

Group service is part of AlphaCare’s volunteer program. Please contact us with your group’s size, interests, and availability. Opportunities are considered in light of current needs, client appointments, available space, and staff capacity to host the group.

How do I arrange a donation drop-off or larger collection?

Please contact AlphaCare before bringing a larger collection or bulky items. We can discuss the items you plan to give and the best way to coordinate delivery. Review our Donate Material Items page first to help ensure your collection meets current needs and guidelines.

Prayer & Staying Connected

How can I pray for AlphaCare?

Pray for the women and families we serve, for wisdom and compassion among our staff, and for the provision needed to continue the work. Our Knee-Mail updates share specific requests and praises, including opportunities to thank God for His faithfulness.

What is the Knee-Mail Prayer Team, and how do I join?

Knee-Mail is AlphaCare’s prayer email, sharing specific requests and praises related to clients, staff, programs, and ministry needs. Visit our Knee-Mail Prayer Team page and select Join Knee-Mail to receive updates and pray alongside us.

How is Knee-Mail different from AlphaCare’s general email updates?

Knee-Mail focuses on prayer requests and praises. Our general email updates share a broader view of the ministry, including client stories, news, events, current needs, and opportunities to become involved.

Can I share AlphaCare prayer requests with my church or small group?

We are grateful for churches and groups that pray with us. Because some requests involve personal circumstances, please follow any sharing instructions included in the message and check with AlphaCare before forwarding or publishing information about a client.

How can I receive ministry news, client stories, and event information?

Sign up through Get AlphaCare Updates to receive our general email communications. You can also visit News & Events and Client Stories to learn more about the ministry and the people involved in its work.

How do I update my email address or communication preferences?

Please contact AlphaCare with the information you would like to update and the communications you wish to receive. Let us know whether your request concerns general ministry updates, Knee-Mail, or donor correspondence so it can be directed appropriately.
