Philadelphia is One of the Poorest Large Cities in America

  • Philadelphia is the 6th-largest city in the United States, yet it has the 2nd-highest poverty rate among the nation’s 10 largest cities.

  • Nearly 1 in 5 Philadelphians lives below the poverty line.

  • Women make up more than half of Philadelphia’s population—approximately 53%, or more than 800,000 women.

Women in Philadelphia Need Help

  • Philadelphia ranked the 2nd highest US city for STI rates in 2025.

  • 13,054 abortions were performed in Philadelphia County in 2023,

  • Over 1/3 of all abortions in Pennsylvania are conducted in Philadelphia.

Many Challenges, Few Resources

Poverty, limited access to affordable healthcare and social determinants, such as housing and neighborhood conditions, exacerbate health risks.

Given its population, one might assume Philadelphia has ample resources for medical, physical, emotional and spiritual care. Yet the city’s chronic poverty and high STI rates reveal systemic gaps.

There are many abortion clinics, medical centers within the major healthcare system and pharmacies offering abortion services, but life-affirming medical care is scarce and can only be counted on one hand.

The Legacy of Life and Love

In 1986, AlphaCare began serving the women of Philadelphia with medical excellence and Christ-centered care.

Rooted in Christian principles, our founders understood that the conversation about life extends beyond the moment of decision regarding her pregnancy.

They recognized the need to address underlying conditions, support mothers’ personal needs and provide practical help for families.

AlphaCare is built on this comprehensive, compassionate approach to care.

The Impact of AlphaCare

Over the decades, AlphaCare’s personal & professional approach has built trust and transformed lives.

The results are visible in babies saved, mothers supported, families strengthened and communities of care created.

Our influence extends beyond clients: we mentor students and nurses, partner with churches and community groups, share our experience with other centers and contribute to national conversations about women’s health.

Each story of care reinforces the power of meeting women where they are and walking with them toward hope.

The Leadership of AlphaCare

AlphaCare leads through faithful service, medical excellence, trusted relationships, and a commitment to continuous growth.

We work alongside women and families, while sharing what we have learned with churches, other healthcare providers, and community organizations.

At its core, leadership at AlphaCare means stewarding what God has entrusted to us with integrity, humility, and a willingness to serve.

It Takes Prayer, People, Process, and Partnerships

Sustaining AlphaCare’s mission takes more than good intentions.

It requires constant prayer, dedicated people, strong systems, and faithful partners working together to provide excellent medical care, compassionate support, practical resources, and ongoing outreach to women and families.

From staffing and training to maintaining our facilities and Mobile Medical Clinic, every part of the mission requires thoughtful stewardship.

Partnerships make it possible to sustain this work, strengthen what is already in place, and expand AlphaCare’s ability to serve with excellence, integrity, and compassion.

Vision – Expansion for Transformation

AlphaCare’s vision is to serve more women and families throughout Philadelphia with the same Christ-centered care that has shaped this ministry for decades.

As God provides the resources, relationships, and opportunities, we want to expand wisely, strengthening what is already working, reaching neighborhoods where needs are greatest, and building sustainable ways to serve families well.

Our desire is not simply to grow for growth’s sake, but to steward every opportunity carefully and prayerfully.

Whether through mobile care, future facilities, stronger partnerships, or new community connections, we want each step forward to help more families experience stability, support, hope, and the love of Christ.

Help Carry the Vision

The need in Philadelphia is great, but so is the opportunity to bring hope, care, and the love of Christ to women and families across our city. Your partnership helps AlphaCare provide medically excellent, compassionate care today while building wisely toward the opportunities God provides for tomorrow.

Together, we can help more women and families flourish.
